Behind the Household Name
How does a fleet of seven cars become a global mobility leader spanning six continents?
At Enterprise Mobility, that has happened through ambitious leadership that never loses sight of the connection and communities on which our success is built. Discover key moments and milestones below throughout our history and see how a family-owned organization has become a global mobility leader.
Fresh from his time in the service, Jack invested his life’s savings in his new venture, basing its founding principles on those he learned aboard USS Enterprise. From the start, Jack’s commitment to integrity, hard work, collaboration and camaraderie were the basis of the organization he built.
One Neighborhood at a Time
As other car rental companies focused on airports, Jack took a different path. Starting with a small fleet of seven cars operating out of the lower level of a St. Louis car dealership, it was here that Jack shaped our business model, listening to his customers who needed to rent cars where they lived and worked. In the early days, it was Jack's vision that led to an unparalleled neighborhood network of locations that still exists today.
Andy Taylor Takes the Wheel
For Jack, coworkers were like family — and before long, Jack’s actual family was helping steer Enterprise toward success. Having grown up inside the business and equipped with a unique view, Jack’s son, Andy C. Taylor, took the wheel as president & CEO in 1991. Andy shaped the vision of the organization for over two decades and helped it grow into the robust industry leader it is today while continuing to act as a steward of the values Jack established at its founding.
In 2013, Enterprise Holdings (as it was known at the time) appointed its first female CEO, three-decade veteran of the business Pam Nicholson. Nicholson, who began her career at Enterprise as a management trainee fresh out of college and rose through the ranks, helped expand the organization’s international reach through a growing network of franchise partners.
Jack’s granddaughter, Chrissy Taylor, has led Enterprise since 2020.
As the third generation of the Taylor family to guide the organization, Chrissy is pursuing the emerging technologies, ambitious sustainability efforts and new customer service advantages that will drive Enterprise Mobility and its affiliates into the future. Today, with Chrissy at the wheel, a new generation of innovative leaders is shaping the next great chapter of the organization’s history.
